Function
The Function of Israel

What is the function of this nation? Why did God go through all of this?  Why pick one man ? Why give him a posterity, eventually a man who would have twelve sons, to eliminate eliminate eleven of them, and select one ? Why did God go throught all this trouble?
1. First of all, Israel's function is to present to the world the Word of God. Are you aware of the fact that every human penman of the Hebrew Scriptures was a Jew? Whether you are a Jew or a Gentile, my friend, you would not have a Hebrew Bible today were it not for God giving that little nation the privilege of presenting this book to the world.
Every Jew and every Gentile should fall on his knees at least once a day, and thank God for giving to us that little nation, which became the repository for the greatest piece of literature in all the world, the Holy Scriptures, the Word of the Living God!
2. Secondly, the function of Israel was to preserve the Word for the world. Now, the Word is supernaturally presented and supernaturally preserved, but God uses human instruments. Jesus said, " Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word shall not pass away. "  But God always uses human instrumentality.
I look back over the years and I thank God for the invention of the printing press. We wouldn't have the book without the invention of the printing press. God was using men...but behind it all, we find the Jews who were the human penman. When we come to the New Testament, there may have been one or two exceptions, maybe we have one or two Gentiles who had a hand in it, but basically, primarily, they were Jews.
3. Thirdly, the function of Israel was to preach the Word to the world.
God called holy Hebrew prophets, and they not only became the repository for the Word, they became the ministers of the Word. +They were to preach it. Read through your Old Testament prophets. They were not all predictive prophets; they did not all predict or foretell, but they were forth-tellers of the truth of God's Word.
Thank God for that little nation! Thank God for the Jew. Yes, this was the function of Israel, and in that you see God's specification. He specified what the nation is here for.
but we come to a sad note in the nation of Israel, and we have to face it, dear friends, whether we like it or not, and that is Israel's failure.
